The 5-Year Mark

Yesterday Surya and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary.  My wonderful parents came over to babysit Mr. Jack and our Dixie girl, of course, while we went out to enjoy Temecula's nightlife, a new thing for us.  We saw the movie, "Crazy, Stupid, Love" which I highly recommend for any Michael Scott fans out there.  After the movie, we headed to Old Town to have dinner at a great spot called The Public House.  While we waited an hour for our table, we went across the street to a wine tasting bar...I love living in wine country!  Everywhere we turned, there was live music and giant crowds of people!  It was fabuloso!

It meant a lot to Surya and I to be able to go out this year to celebrate.   This time last year, Jack was all of a week and a half old and Surya and I were so sleep deprived from being new parents and moving that we didn't even remember that it was our anniversary!  Five years of marriage and a decade together have passed in a flash, but we are so grateful for wonderful memories and great times.

You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly.

OCD Put to Good Use

So those of you who know me know that I can be a little OCD.  When I say I am going to do something, by golly, I am going to do it!  I have to say that I LOVE sewing and I have just discovered, thanks to my good friend, Mandi, how easy it is to make pillow covers and curtains!  I may never buy another pillow cover or curtain again knowing how easy it is to make my own!  Here is what I have been up to:

I made some throw pillows for our bed.
I added 2 pillows to Jack's window seat (the stripes, obviously, not the complicated ones!)
Outdoor throw pillows for our new patio furniture.
I loved the outdoor fabric so much, I used it to make curtains for our dining room!
Next project on my agenda:  seat cushions for our kitchen table chairs and curtains for our bedroom.  I will post pictures when they are finished!

Jack's New Favorite Toy

So if Jack was Oprah, this toy would be on his list of My Favorite Things.  Actually, this has become Daddy's favorite toy, too.  Check it out for yourselves:

As you can see, Surya is having as much fun (maybe even more) as Jack.  He is now talking about putting a net at the end of the driveway to catch Jack when he's old enough to do stunts I can't even imagine (or can and don't want to) on that driveway.  I fear we may have a dare-devil on our hands as Jack didn't even so much as flinch while flying down that long slope.  In fact, he lifted his feet up, held onto that steering wheel, and had a look of exhilaration on his face the entire way down!  I hope I have better health insurance by the time this kid can walk!

Projects Update

I feel like I have 20 projects going on at once!  I am happy to say, though, that I have made progress!

Surya's Bathroom

Surya's bathroom To-Do List:

1.  Primer walls
2.  Paint top half gray, bottom half white
3.  Add board and batten
4.  Frame mirror
5.  Install new toilet
6.  Install new shower curtain rod
7.  Hang picture and add new switchplates

Jack's Room
Window seat cushion:  Mandi and I are sewing a cover, well, Mandi is and I am learning!

Jack's name:  Cover canvas with fabric and glue letters down.
Voila!

Extra pillows I bought from Pottery Barn Teen for Jack's window seat.  I am hoping to sew some more.
Christmas Crack Nostalgia Project
I am happy to say that I have picked up stitching!  I am LOVING the Advent Calendar project, however, Surya is already sick of it and calls it my "crack" project because I am addicted to finishing it!  Maybe I'll have it finished before Jack's 18th birthday afterall!
Sewn by hand all by myself!

Mommy's New Best Friend

Jack has become too chunky big for his Bumbo, so we let sweet, petite little Anayah borrow it.  In the meantime, I had ordered a big boy highchair for Jack (that's right, I'm not messing around!).  So it arrived a few days ago, and if I was Oprah, this item would be on my list of My Favorite Things.  This wonderful invention allows me to clean my pump accessories, wash bottles, prepare Jack's huge meals of rice cereal, bananas, squash, or sweet potatoes, and even allows me to eat my lunch with 2 hands!  I am in heaven with this contraption.  Jack props his chunky monkey feet up on the tray, and I arrange a plethora of toys in front of him and let him go to town.  Where oh where would I be without this device?

I'm ready for my cereal, Mom!

Chillin' while Mommy eats her lunch!

Catchin' flies.  That highchair even wore him out!  Ahhhhh!
